Damian Jones to Real Madrid

By FantasyHoops · 8 September 2026

Real Madrid have officially completed the signing of Damian Jones, adding the experienced American center to their roster for the 2026-27 season. The 31-year-old has agreed to a one-year contract with the Spanish giants and will now begin his first European chapter.

The financial details of the agreement have not been disclosed. Real Madrid have confirmed that Jones signed through the end of the 2026-27 season, but neither the club nor reliable reports have revealed his salary or the total value of the contract.

Jones arrives in Madrid after finishing the Puerto Rican season with the Vaqueros de Bayamón. He helped the team win the league championship before making the move to one of Europe’s biggest basketball clubs.

The signing had been developing for several weeks before Real Madrid finally made it official. Reports in July indicated that the two sides were getting close to an agreement, with Madrid looking to strengthen their frontcourt ahead of the new campaign.

The move also gives Real Madrid another experienced option alongside Walter Tavares and Olivier Sarr. Jones brings size, athleticism and defensive ability to a frontcourt that has dealt with injuries and needed additional depth.

Jones spent eight seasons in the NBA between 2016 and 2024, wearing the jerseys of seven different franchises. He gained experience with Golden State, Atlanta, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Utah and Cleveland during his time in the league.

His NBA journey included 279 regular-season appearances, while he also featured in four different playoff campaigns. His most memorable period came with Golden State, where he was part of the Warriors’ championship-winning squads in 2017 and 2018.

After leaving the NBA, Jones continued his career overseas. He spent the previous two seasons with the Zhejiang Golden Bulls in China, where he produced 9.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game during his final season there.

He then moved to Puerto Rico for the playoffs with Vaqueros de Bayamón. In ten appearances, Jones averaged 13.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.5 blocks, while helping the club secure the championship.

Real Madrid see his physical presence as an important addition to their interior rotation. At 2.11 meters, Jones can protect the rim, finish around the basket and provide an athletic target in pick-and-roll situations.

The center has also spoken positively about his decision to join Madrid. He explained that the club’s history was one of the main reasons behind his choice and said that playing in the EuroLeague was something he had wanted to experience after leaving the NBA.

Jones is also arriving with clear ambitions. His focus is on contributing to victories and helping Real Madrid compete for trophies across both domestic competition and the EuroLeague.

For Real Madrid, the signing represents another experienced addition to an already heavily reshaped squad. For Jones, it marks a major new stage in his career and his first opportunity to compete regularly in European basketball.

The agreement runs until the end of the 2026-27 season, meaning Jones will have the upcoming campaign to establish himself in Madrid and make his long-awaited EuroLeague debut.
